A.B.A.T.E. Motorcycle Rodeo
A.B.A.T.E. arrives A.G.A.I.N. this year at the Buffalo Chip
Amphitheater to help kick-off the good times! So come one - and come all, sign up starts at 11:00 am and the rodeo starts at 1:00 pm on Saturday August 1st and continuing every day thereafter until the 2009 Sturgis Rally festivities come to an end.
For a mere $3 participation fee per event campers and anyone else who purchases a day pass to the legendary Buffalo Chip Campground can sign up to join South Dakota A.B.A.T.E. members in the annual motorcycle rodeo . You don't have to ride a Harley to participate but the events are only open to two-wheeled motorcycles.
We're planning some exciting events!
On tap this year are events for individual participants such as the always entertaining Keg Push, Plank Race, Slalom, and Slow Race. Plus there will be some new games that will test the rider’s skills and at the same time participants will want to watch. We'll have events for women riders and also team events including the Weenie Bite, Joust and the safer-than-it-sounds Drive by Shooting event.
For participants and onlookers alike the A.B.A.T.E. motorcycle rodeo at Buffalo Chip is always a thrilling way to spend the afternoon. And the South Dakota A.B.A.T.E. organization will put every $3 participation fee to good use. All the money collected from the multi-day events at Buffalo Chip will go towards supporting the safety and awareness programs that A.B.A.T.E. of South Dakota sponsors. A BROTHERHOOD FOR AWARENESS, TRAINING AND EDUCATION.
In case you don't know, the Rushmore Chapter of A.B.A.T.E. (A BROTHERHOOD FOR AWARENESS TRAINING AND EDUCATION) is just one of sixteen chapters in South Dakota associated with this nationwide organization that seeks to protect bikers' rights. The purpose and goals of A.B.A.T.E. of South Dakota will be to act as a watchdog to warn members against adverse motorcycle legislation and to promote favorable legislation for motorcyclists at local, state and federal levels. Improve road conditions, thus making roads safer for motorcyclists. Help prevent accidents through rider awareness and education. Discourage motorcycle thefts. Promote political involvement of motorcyclists. Act as a liaison between motorcyclists and government authorities. Present and promote a better public image of motorcyclists.
A.B.A.T.E. of South Dakota is governed by a Board of Directors. Each chapter elects a State Representative from the membership of their chapter to serve as a member of the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors elects a State Coordinator, Vice Coordinator, Legislative Officer, Secretary, and Treasurer to administer the affairs of A.B.A.T.E. of South Dakota. A.B.A.T.E. of South Dakota is a non-profit corporation complying with the guidelines required for such a corporation.
That's quite a mission and we're quite proud to have the A.B.A.T.E. of South Dakota and all other chapters as our sponsors for this event. We've put together a sneak peek of what you can expect if you've got the bike and the bravado to take part.
What may even be better than all the fun is all the awards we'll be giving out every day to the winners of each of the events. What a great way to guarantee your name lives on at the legendary Buffalo Chip!
But remember, before that can happen you've got to let the judges know you're interested in participating. The 2009 Sturgis Rally sign-ups take place starting 2 hours before each day's Motorcycle Rodeo so grab your bike and don't be late!
