CHEECH & CHONG At THE CHIP
After a 22 year hiatus from the road, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong are packing up the van and heading to the lands of the Buffalo Chip. The Up In Smoke stars have a distinguished taste of funny and are sure to amp it up a notch for the Tuesday August 4th show.
The team got together in Vancouver, British Columbia after Cheech’s employment at Tommy’s adult nightclub eventually taking the act to Los Angeles, CA. In true form, the rest is history. The duo is nationally recognized for their half-hazard improv comedy with the spontaneous acoustic component. Cheech and Chong both have backgrounds in the music and film industries. The release of nine albums over 13 years gave the combo their distinction with four nominations for Grammys with Los Cochinos earning the 1973 Grammy for Best Comedy Recording. The world of the big screen proved successful as they earned the bragging rights of highest grossing comedy of 1978 and went on to co-write and direct eight features.
After wearing out the road both un-canny men gave their solo careers some attention. Tommy’s appearances on the big and small screens in “Far Out, Man!” as well Fox’s “That 70’s Show” and ABC’s “Dharma & Greg” are the highlights of his time away from the live comedy stage. Cheech had much of the same flavor as he spent time starring in films and taking the directors roll in many others like “Born in East L.A,” “Tin Cup,” “ Once Upon A Time In Mexico” and most recently the CBS drama “Nash Bridges” and “Lost.”
These cultural icons have built an act that has evolved stand-up comedy and everyday humor. The bottom line is, you just have to laugh at the stuff they come up with because no one else comes close to creating their characters.
