World Renown Art Exhibit new to Legendary Buffalo Chip
Distinction has a new look and home for 2009 as Michael Lichter presents the ninth annual Motorcycles As Art Exhibition at the Legendary Buffalo Chip. This exhibit features a stunning review of custom motorcycles, photography, artwork and other memorabilia that illustrates a story of lifestyle created like no one else can.
The start of Lichter’s career dates back to the late nights experimenting with film in the dark room after being behind the lens of his first camera, a WWII vintage 35mm. His interests have always been people and their separate ways of life. His raw talents behind the camera had undoubtedly wholly consumed his time until his introduction to motorcycling.
Two hobbies, photography and riding, became one in 1977 with the purchase of a ’71 Harley Davidson. Lichter has since defined what it is to capture the essence of the freedom’s which the open road holds. His earliest experiences in Sturgis captured the ride, the friends and the mellow chaos that took place those hot August days.
The Legendary Buffalo Chip has been on photographic film since its start in 1982 much ado to Michael’s work on assignment for Easyriders. Dave Nichols, Editor-In-Chief, Easyriders magazine agrees that Michael’s photography is a testament to his passion for motorcycles. “Michael actually enjoys hanging off the back of a pickup truck, dodging road kill as he shoots a squadron of chopped Harley-Davidsons, his squinting face mere inches from the blur of asphalt.”
Michael Lichter, known for his creativity in presenting the culture of motorcycling, has been further defined as the world’s most influential motorcycle photographer. In “Sturgis: The Photography of Michael Lichter” one of his published books, Michael gives straightforward answers about his photos, “What you see is the full frame, from edge to edge, as canted or cocked as it was in the viewfinder.” Which means every detail is intact without editing of any kind, making it seem as if you were there.
Amid the road, the dust, the weather and the terrain there are two things that continue to catch the attention of the man behind the lens: motorcycles and those who ride them. Michael’s work has been featured worldwide, viewed on hundreds of magazine pages, in highly regarded galleries, home collections and now, in the exhibit’s 9th year distinctly featured at the Legendary Buffalo Chip.
The exhibit’s theme, to be announced in May, is sure to combine celebrities, bike builders and elite pieces from private collections. Plan to experience this significant Motorcycles as Art exhibit August 1st through August 8th 2009. Exhibit hours and more information will be posted on www.buffalochip.com.
