HERE'S WHY:

This is a special package to camp in a secured area where the number of campers is limited and access is restricted. Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2004 was the first year the Buffalo Chip made this available and it has been a smashing success.

Sturgis Rally visitors are VIP's at the Buffalo Chip's Fenske Park. Fenske Park campers enjoy special privileges and several get to meet performing headliners each year, in addition to unannounced backstage guests like Johnny Rivers and Peter Fonda. This year's Fenske Campers may also have such memorable opportunities, depending solely upon being at the right place at the right time. No promises whatsoever, of course.

HERE'S WHAT WE PROMISED TO FENSKE PARK CAMPER SINCE THE 2008 STURGIS RALLY:

1. We're always still in construction and changes will continue to be made until the last minute, so you'll need to follow the website to keep updated. You'll never be provided less than what's represented here.

Enjoy the Buffalo Chip and the Sturgis Rally from August 2nd through August 15th

2. You have admission from Aug 2 (1 week before the "official" beginning of the rally) through the day after the "official" end of the rally, August 15, 2010 and get to camp in the Fenske Park areas. Look at the website map.
Only Fenske Parkers have access to these areas. Don't lose your pass, as no one will be admitted to this area without the appropriate pass. Note: you don't have to camp in the Fenske Park area to have the privileges. Some, for example, rent RV spaces in the South 40 and upgraded their access to Fenske Park so they'd have the benefits and the maximized opportunity to meet some entertainers.

3. We'll provide free draft beer every day from about noon until 1:30 a.m.
beginning Friday, Aug 6, 2010 through 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, August 14, 2010.. It'll be near the production office and the shaded dining area constructed for you. It'll be attended most times, but it's possible you'll need to draw your own beer if the beertender is off doing something else.

Dining, Camping and Draft Beer

4. Each Buffalo Chip Sturgis Rally Fenske Parker will be entitled to an evening meal at the backstage catering area each night except the night chosen for the Pitchfork Fondue. This is the same general area as the staff and stars use. It's a shaded outdoor deck separated by a half-deck wall. Fenske Parkers have use of the west half. The stars are free to sit on the west half with Fenske Parkers, but Fenske Parkers are not free to access the east half.

Food delivery remains in the planning stages. It's called catering, but staff, stars and Fenske Parkers will all obtain their meals from a buffet-style presentation and will have a token for each meal. All will likely obtain food from the same buffet.

You never know about the artists who comes to perform concerts at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip

The stars' privacy must be respected. They'll let us all know if they want to give autographs and photo opportunities. Remember, they're just people.  Backstage and mealtimes are private time. Any Fenske Parker who might hassle a star, or crosses into the stars' restricted areas, including the east half of the dining deck and certainly including the dressing rooms or busses, will be removed from the Fenske Park area and his/her Fenske Park pass will be pulled.

Buffalo Chip offers Stage Front Access

5. Stage-front access. This means access to the PDC (pretty damn close) Fenske area in front of the main stage. This is an area directly in front of the stage between the general audience and the stage. It's approximately 8 feet deep and extends from the west end of the stage for half of the 108 foot width of the stage and sound wings. This is SRO and there is no seating. It will be most crowded during shows by the most famous artists, which is also when you will most want to be there. You can come and go at will with your pass, but access to the PDC area may be precluded by capacity limits.  No one can save your place while you make a bathroom trip.

The Fenske Parkers' PDC area is exclusive.  It will not be shared with Fans' VIPs as in prior years, as a smaller area is separated for them with separate entrance on the east end of the stage.  The West PDC entrance and area is reserved solely for those with Fenske Park passes.

Meet and Greet Sturgis Rally Concert Stars

6. Meet and greet invitations: Stars sometimes agree to a special meeting for autographs and photographs. This is usually shortly before or immediately after their show and is generally arranged through a radio or television station. The Meet and Greet Area is off-limits to Fenske Parkers except by specific invitation. The meet and greet area is otherwise restricted solely to thoses who possess the "FANS VIP"  pass.

Artists place limits on Meet and Greets

The artists always place restrictions upon the meet and greet, and one of the most common is a restriction on the number of people admitted. We are usually told about the artist's meet and greet restrictions only minutes before the event. There is no Guarantee that anyone will enjoy the privilege to meet and greet the artist, even for those with the "Fans VIP" pass. Almost always, the artist will not meet eveyone who is in the meet and greet area. Occasionally there is an opportunity for Fenske Parkers to be included in the meet and greet. We look to the Fenske Park Catering Deck for candidates to join the meet and greet if the opportunity arises. Accordingly, you are advised to be on the Fenske Park Catering Deck at 8:00 p.m. if you wish to maximize your opportunity to be amongst those selected for the meet and greet.

We will try and let you know

We will, if we are told there's room for some Fenske Parkers to attend, attempt to place a notice on the bulletin board by the draft beer bar, or make a verbal announcement, depending upon the time available.

The Right place at the Right time is the way the Sturgis Rally extravaganza works

A production representative will routinely select and admit the permissible number into the Meet and Greet area. We thus facilitate your attendance as best as we can, but it's entirely at the discretion of the artist and production person to determine how many and which Fenske Parkers would get to attend any such event. You need to be at the right place at the right time and be lucky.

Fist come first serve

FENSKE PARK TENT CAMPING:

Most of Fenske Park is reserved for tent campers.

FENSKE PARK IMPROVED RV CAMPING:

There are very few improved RV spaces available in the Fenske Park area.

Each RV space has access to either a 30 or 50 amp service, in addition to 20 amp and 110 outlets. Each space also has hookups to water and sewer.

Each space is in a grassy area and has neither gravel nor pavement on it. Each individual space measures 20 feet in width.  None exceeds 50 feet in length.  We will need to know the size of your camping RV prior to your arrival in order to arrange placement.

HOST/HOSTESS:

Fenske Park will have hosts and/or hostesses assigned to be available to address your concerns while you are at the 2008 Sturgis Rally,  help you to get properly placed upon  your arrival, and insure that the free beer never runs dry. Stay tuned to the website.  We'll post the email address for the boss host and ask you to send an email a week or  two before you leave, and provide the cell phone number you will be using while at the  Chip. This will facilitate last minute personal attention to make life easier for all of us.

TRAFFIC:

The idea is to have the area populated solely by tents and motorcycles.  Daily traffic is intended to be for motorcycles, not 4-wheeled vehicles.  4-wheeled non-RV units should be parked in the Fenske Parking area so that the Fenske Park RV area and the Fenske Park tent areas are free of 4-wheeled vehicles and 4-wheeled traffic.  4-wheeled traffic should be limited to your camp's set up and tear down.

Entry into the Fenske Park area is through either of one of two gates. All vehicles will ingress and egress from the VIP gate on the east end of Fenske Park. This gate is secured by an attended who’s instructed to admit no one who does not have an appropriate pass. Pedestrian traffic ingress and egress is through a pedestrian gate located between the flush toilets and food vendor station located stage left. This gate, too, is attended by a security guard who is instructed to admit no one who does not possess a Fenske Park pass."

CELL PHONES:

Be advised that not all cell phones have good reception at the Chip. We have found that cell phones that work both digitally and with analog, and particularly those with Verizon service, seem to work best.

We want to make your stay at the Chip as rewarding as we can for you. Please don't be shy about telling us how we can make it better for you next year.
